Malibu Photo Booth | Fred Segal Home

A few blocks from the Malibu Pier, tucked into the beach-chic retail world of Fred Segal Home, there's a Los Angeles Majestic Photobooth that guests now seek out on purpose. It didn't arrive for a single event or a weekend pop-up. It's a photo booth created through our venue placement model, and it's become one of the clearest examples of what a Malibu photo booth can do when it's built to live somewhere long term instead of just visiting for a night.

A Permanent Fixture, Not a Rental

This installation is part of our venue placement program, which works differently than a typical event rental. Fred Segal Home didn't purchase a booth or rent one for a single night. Instead, Majestic and Fred Segal entered a partnership: we provide, install, and maintain the photo booth as a standing feature of their retail space, and we generate revenue through guest usage over time rather than through a single upfront rental fee.

That structure matters because it changes what the booth is for. A rental booth is built around one event and one night of energy. A permanent photo booth is built to hold up under daily foot traffic, week after week, for guests who may walk past it a dozen times before they ever step inside. It has to look permanent because it is permanent, which is a different design problem than dressing a booth for a single evening.

Minimal Design, Built to Last

The Fred Segal Home booth carries a simple palette. A navy curtain with thin navy and red pinstripes lines the interior, paired with warm wood-grain paneling on the exterior panels. A single vertical sign reads "PHOTOS," with "Fred Segal Home Malibu" placed underneath in a clean, understated typeface all the while respecting the brand's design. There's no full wrap here and no heavy pattern covering every surface.

What It's Like Inside Fred Segal Home Malibu

Fred Segal Home Malibu isn't a typical retail floor. The space includes a pool, a bar, and a set of kinetic sand tables where a rolling metal ball carves shifting patterns into the sand as guests pass by. It's the kind of environment built for browsing slowly, ordering a drink, and sticking around, closer to a boutique lounge than a store you run into and out of.

The photo booth fits naturally into that pace. Guests who've already spent twenty minutes wandering the space, sitting by the pool, or watching the sand tables are exactly the kind of guest who will happily step into a booth and take their time with it. The image of a guest curled up laughing on the booth's bench, photo strip already in hand, catches something true about the space itself. It isn't a rushed stop. It's part of a slower, more indulgent visit to a retail environment that was clearly designed with that pace in mind. If you want to bring this intentionality to your brand or venue please reach out to us and let’s partner.

A Booth Worth the Drive

Fred Segal Home staff have mentioned something interesting about this particular booth: people travel across Los Angeles specifically to use it. Not everyone walking in the door is a Malibu local out for a beach day. Some guests are making a dedicated trip from other parts of LA because they've heard about this exact photo booth, in this exact location, and want the photo strip to prove it.

That's not a number we can point to with hard data, but it's a meaningful signal on its own. A photo booth that draws visitors from outside its immediate neighborhood has become a destination feature rather than a nice-to-have amenity. For a Malibu photo booth specifically, tucked into a coastal retail space that already competes with the ocean itself for attention, that's a strong sign the booth is doing its job.

Why Venue Placements Work for Retail Spaces Like This

A retail space like Fred Segal Home Malibu already has plenty going for it visually: the pool, the sand art, the location near the pier. A photo booth doesn't need to compete with any of that. It just needs to give guests a reason to capture the visit and take something physical home with them

For the venue, a permanent placement also means the booth becomes part of the regular guest experience rather than a special addition tied to a single campaign. Guests come back, bring friends who haven't seen it yet, and the booth keeps generating fresh, shareable content well past any single opening or launch date. That's the real advantage of a placement over a one-off rental: the value compounds over months and years instead of resetting after one event.

We've seen this same pattern play out in very different environments. Our permanent installation at Assembly Food Hall in Nashville follows the same logic in a completely different kind of space, a high-traffic food hall instead of a coastal retail store, proving that the model holds up across very different types of venues as long as the space has steady foot traffic and a reason for guests to linger.

Majestic has been building booths like this since 2006, and our approach has always centered on creating something guests actually want to seek out, not just walk past. If you're running a retail space, hotel, restaurant, or lounge anywhere in the Los Angeles area and want to explore what a permanent photo booth could look like in your own space, take a look at our Los Angeles photo booth coverage, or learn more about how our venue placement partnership works from the ground up.
